Writing Competition

We have loads of goodies to give away, including gear from COleman Tents, TRail magazine, Wildlife trusts, Inspirational Signed Books and a £250 cash prize to be split between the winner and a charity of choice.

Theme: Wilderness & Wellbeing - How has an adventure or an experience in nature helped to change your life?

Perhaps you walked the Appalachian Trail, escaped for a few days in a kayak, climbed a mountain or simply turned to nature to find a renewed balance in your life. Has an experience in nature or the outdoors ever made a profound impact on your life. Have you emerged the other side of an adventure a different person? Has nature taught you something about yourself or what is important in your own life? Whatever it is and wherever it may have been we want you to tell us about it in under 500 words (it could be 10, it could be 500).

We will be choosing 3 winners and have many great prizes to give away:

First Prize:

If your story is shortlisted you will hear back from us personally and the judges will make their decision via a blind vote, with the winners to be announced in November.

Conditions of Entry for the Armchair Mountaineer Wild Writing Competition:

  • Closing Date for entries is 31st October 2017.
  • Entries must be related to outdoor activities and wellbeing.
  • Entries should be a maximum of 500 words long. 
  • All entries should be supplied by email in Word Document format, or by post, typewritten or printed on one side of the paper only.
  • The Armchair Mountaineer reserves the right to publish the three prize-winning entries. 
  • The judges decision will be final.

Judging:

Those shortlisted for a prize will be informed a few days after the competition closes.
A panel of 4 judges will read the shortlisted stories and take par tin a blind vote to decide the winners.
The winners will be announced in November 2017.
